GSM Gateways

Cutting the cost of calls to mobiles

Assuming your business is making outgoing calls to the mobiles of staff members, the general public or other clients, the following information may provide a simple means of cutting overheads and increasing profit margins with an absolute minimum of effort.

How?

Study the recent telephone bills of your business and you’ll soon recognise that landline calls made to the mobile phone numbers of staff and customers will account for a disproportionately large percentage of the total cost. Often around 70% of the billing charges, but only around 30% of the duration. The reason behind these higher charges lies in the way in which the various networks bill users for cross network calls.

Recently, as a means to bypass these charges, many businesses have been installing simple, cheap electronic devices called ‘GSM Gateways’.

When connected to the phone lines, these devices recognise when a mobile number is being dialled and route the call (via a sim card) through the relevant mobile network, converting the call to a mobile to mobile rate, slashing the cost, and depending on the network, even making the call free of charge.

Why do I need it?

GSM gateway equipment is designed to work with almost all phone systems, whether analogue or digital, BT or Cable, and now that they’re becoming standard pieces of business equipment, the commercial decision to install them has become something of a ‘no-brainer’ for even the smallest of businesses making regular outgoing telephone calls, thanks in no small part to the negligible cost of having one fitted.
